Maternity Portraits/Pregnancy Pictures  – Celebrating a Most Wonderful Time

Watching my daughter Chelsie through her entire pregnancy was a wondrous process indeed.

Almost every day, I’d get text messages as to exactly what was happening at that particular point in the pregnancy.  By this time the heart has started beating.  By this time, the fingers and toes are forming.  You probably know each of these stages of development because you’re visiting the websites daily as well.

Like her, you probably have a pregnancy calendar on your Facebook page – how many weeks in and how many to go.

I remember her calling me one day, and telling me “It’s the size of a peanut”.  So, for the next number of weeks, we referred to her baby as Peanut.  That is, until, she finally had her ultrasound and we knew she was having a little girl, and then when they finally decided on Kennedy as her name.

Ok, I’m a guy, and guys aren’t supposed to get all excited about these things.  But I happen to think that the process is amazing, and that pregnant women are indeed beautiful.

They glow.

Admittedly, during the first trimester, the glow has a decidedly green color, but I still think they glow.

What more feminine time is there in a woman’s life?  After all, this is exactly what a womans body was designed to do.

That’s why we love to celebrate pregnancy with beautiful, sensitive maternity pictures celebrating the coming new life; celebrating this amazing bond that has already formed between mother and unborn baby; celebrating the relationship between mom and dad that brought this new life into being.

Maternity portraits aren’t for everyone.  But for those who are really into the pregnancy process, they can be perfect.

And pregnancy pictures come in many different styles, as you can see by the portraits above.

They can be very demure.

When I photographed my niece, we never even saw her belly, and we photographed her in the woods.  Shes a very modest person and her husband is rather shy, especially in front of the camera, so for them, this was the perfect style.

Another example is the couple sitting in the field of flowers.  You can tell she’s pregnant, but not even her tummy is exposed.

They can be fun and lighthearted

For some couples or families, this is the right approach, especially if older children are involved.  A great example is the series showing older brothers finger painting on moms tummy.

They can be heartwarming

Or they can be Intimate.

You’ll see some examples of these in the slide show above as well.  In each case, this was exactly what the couple wanted.
