Mi Amore Engagement Pictures

“Our wedding will be a very special day, and we’ll love the photographs. But it won’t be the real us.  Our engagement pictures, however,  show who we are every day of our lives, and that’s why they’re so important to us”

That’s what Sabrina told us when she and Brian came into the studio to see the results of their engagement session.  I’d never thought about it that way before, but it’s shaped how we create couples portraits ever since.

Sabrina was a farrier, and Brian a working cowboy when they first met.  Their lives revolved around horses, so it made so much sense that we create their engagement pictures at a place that was very special to them – Butte Creek Scout Ranch.

The album we created for them is shown in the slideshow above.  Brian’s a quiet, almost shy kind of guy, sort of the typical “aw shucks, ma’am” cowboy, so photographing in a place that was like home  made it a wonderful experience for the two of them.  They’re a laid-back, relaxed, quiet kind of couple that simply enjoys each other’s presence, and the less formal lifestyle that comes from being around a ranch.  No matter where life takes them, they’ll always be able to look at this book, and remember their roots.

The second slide show is of a totally different type of couple and a totally different type of session.  Steven and Bryndle are young, energetic, lively, and urban.  We photographed them partly in the alleys and streetscapes of downtown Salem, where they enjoy being together.  But we did the second half of their session at Deepwood, a very special place to both of them.

Bryndles parents were married at Deepwood.  And it was at Deepwood that Steve staged an elaborate proposal.  So we simply had to include this setting as a part of their engagement picture session.

In both cases our goal was to give everyone who sees the albums a sense of who each couple is.  We wanted their friends and family to exclaim “Oh, that’s SO YOU” when they see the results.

Two different couples, two different stories, two different books.  But the common factor is that we wanted to show the nature of the relationship, the love they felt for each other, and an understanding of what brought them together and why their getting married.

If we’re photographing your wedding, this also gives us the change to get to know each other; to establish a comfort level, a relationship which makes your experience on your wedding day just that much more fun.  It also lets us learn how to best photograph you for those “Thats So YOU!” kinds of photographs.

Every couple has their own story.  Each is different, and that’s how we approach couple’s portraits in our Mi Amore engagement program.

How could we best tell YOUR story?  Come chat with us, and we’ll talk over some ideas.  Call our office to set up a pre-portrait planning session, and we’ll design a session that will be perfect for you.   Our number is 503-588-0902, or use the CONTACT form on the menu above.
