Best Friends are another type of family. That’s why these friendships should be celebrated with their own kind of family portraits.
Best Friends are a rare and valuable commodity
Helen Ruth Johnson was one of my mother’s best friends. They first met in third grade at Gregory Heights Elementary School, and their friendship lasted all through grade school and high school. When each was married, they were each others honor attendant at their weddings. Mom was godmother to Helen’s children.
Their friendship lasted throughout their lives. They went through all the ups and downs of life together, sometimes not seeing each other for a year or two at a time, but the ties were still there and strong.
When my mother passed away at age 79, the friendship was still as strong as ever, and in fact Helen’s friendship was one of the things that really helped my mother get through some emotionally difficult times after my father passed away.
These kinds of friendships are rare, and special, and to be treasured. Most of us will be lucky to have even one life long friendship that stands the test of time like this.
But when they do exist, we think they should be commemorated. That’s what we do. We capture relationships like these in great story-telling portraits.
